Hello and welcome to the first ever Monkey Business Dev Log!! I'll take this time to be a little less cryptic about the nature of what Monkey Business is going to be. As it stands, MB is going to be less of an idle game with choose your own adventure visual novel components, and more of a visual novel with idle game components. The game will follow a young monkey who has just inherited his father's banana stash, trying to make it big. As you progress, more and more characters will introduce themselves, and the game will begin to be driven less by the bananas you have, and more by the relationships you foster with the game's cast (though, that doesn't mean you’ll be able to get by WITHOUT running a tight successful company)
So far I have completed an outline of the overarching story and all endings that the game will have, as well as detailed character descriptions, a few of which I will share below.
[Share Below]Now that the story is mostly ironed out I will begin working on the road to a public DEMO! Now what exactly does that entail? First things first is finishing up the baseline idle-game mechanics (i'd say this is about 60% done) Then Implementing mechanics related to interacting with competing businesses, Implementing the election system, and your ability to interfere in it, Building the Dialogue system, Writing all of the Dialogue for the DEMO portion of the game, And polishing and reworking any sprites that need it.
After that is complete, I plan on releasing a playable DEMO on gamejolt that will hopefully give a good taste for the balance between story and strategy, while not giving away too much about the trajectory of the rest of the game.
I don't plan on keeping a regular devlog schedule, I am much more inclined to upload new devlogs when a certain amount of progress is actually made, and/or I have something tangible to show you all. If you don't want to miss out on future devlogs, consider following the game on twitter and bluesky!
